With more than 1 million engines leaving the BMW Group plant in Steyr every year, every second new car from the world-renowned car and motorbike manufacturer is powered by an engine from the Austrian production and development facility. However, the fact that the BMW Group's largest engine plant is future-proof is not only demonstrated by its CO₂-neutral production, which is made possible by green electricity and heating from biomass. A completely new high-performance electric drive is already being developed here today. Furthermore, the BMW Group's new generation of e-drives will go into series production in Steyr from 2025. Precision. A catchphrase whose meaning becomes clear to everyone who sees our EDGE speed down the racetrack at full speed for the first time. The focus on precision begins in the design and is of fundamental importance, especially in production. The requirement of the tightest tolerances makes the manufacture of the planetary gears for our all-wheel electric drive a major challenge. Design components, analyze strengths, simulate air currents and render images. All of this is part of our daily business and all of this requires gigantic amounts of computing power. The new Z840 performance workstations from HP make the hearts of technicians beat faster. Finally, all the necessary calculations can be carried out with a realistic resolution. And the best thing about it: Instead of having to wait several hours as before, the simulation results are now available in a few minutes.
