BMW Group

The BMW Group plant in Steyr is the largest engine plant of the world-famous car manufacturer BMW. More than 1 million diesel and petrol engines are produced here every year and more than half of all BMW and MINI vehicles have a ‘heart’ from Steyr. In addition, intensive research and development work on new e-drives is carried out at the plant's state-of-the-art development centre.

Known for its high-quality products and innovative technology, the Steyr plant manufactures components for BMW's e-models and plans to implement its own efficient drive systems in a CO2-neutral production process by 2025.

 

The BMW Group Plant Steyr supports us in all areas of the team and combines production, expertise, important financial support and community in one co-operation. Among other things, the engine plant manufactured the wheel carriers for the EDGE15. Additionally, some parts were manufactured in the plant's modern apprentice workshop.

With the title sponsorship, we also became the fourth team to be included in the BMW Group's Formula Student programme. The large network of mentors gives us an insight into BMW's extensive expertise in all areas of vehicle development. In addition, we are already experiencing a close relationship with the other sponsored teams through various events organised by BMW.

DMG MORI is a world-leading manufacturer of machine tools and provides us with crucial support in the development of our EDGE. In particular, the precision tool and mould making made possible by our partner is a key factor in the success of our racing car. Thanks to access to a 5-axis CNC milling machine (DMU 40) and a CNC lathe (CTX 350) at the DMG MORI TechCenter Stockerau site, we have been able to massively expand our in-house manufacturing capabilities. Our team members are trained directly by DMG MORI application engineers and then manufacture the parts independently – a huge step forward compared to our previous reliance on external contract manufacturers.
Through its commitment to school and university education, DMG MORI is helping to bring the MX approach and the intelligent integration of people and machines to the next generation of industry experts and decision-makers.

H&H Systems committed itself to digitalisation in maintenance almost 30 years ago, making it a pioneer in the field of software-supported maintenance. Today, the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Software) ISPRO-NG is successfully used by numerous companies worldwide. The new Z840 performance workstations from HP make the hearts of technicians beat faster. Finally, all the necessary calculations can be carried out with a realistic resolution. And the best thing about it: Instead of having to wait several hours as before, the simulation results are now available in a few minutes. So we can simulate more often, develop faster and of course learn more. Thanks HP for the Z840 workstations!

With us since the beginning and always our point of contact when our carbon knowledge is running low. Regardless of whether you have questions about strength calculations or manufacturing steps, Peak Technology is always there for us. The high-tech workplaces and machines that make the production of a carbon monocoque possible in the first place are also located in Holzhausen.
