Dear friends, dear supporters and dear fans!
We are back with a new update from the competition period of EDGE15.
Our last event of the 2024 season: Formula Student Alpe Adria
At our last event, we wanted to bring out everything the EDGE15 has to offer. On August 20, we made the journey to Mičevec, Croatia for FS Alpe Adria. After almost five hours of driving, we were able to welcome our race car there and move into and set up our pit at the RIMAC test site. While our pit crew continued to work there to prepare the EDGE for the pre-inspection, the rest of our members set off towards the campsite to set up the tents and cook dinner. With the pasta salad and team clothing in their luggage, it was back to the race track just a few hours later for the official opening ceremony.
At 06:30, the first people were happy to hear the wake-up music that could be heard throughout the camp. This alarm was for our pit crew, who had already made their way to the pit early in the morning to prepare everything for the day. The members of the camp had it a little better in this aspect: those who had not yet been woken up by the heat were able to enjoy the same wake-up music just two hours later. While the camp crew took care of the shopping, washing up and lunch, our EDGE15 was checked in the pit for all mechanical and electronic criteria. In addition, the battery was tested for safety and the riders had to take part in the Driver Egress. Each driver had to jump out of the car in just five seconds without touching the car and the ground at the same time. After a full day, the whole team gathered back at the camp for the evening briefing to summarize everything and discuss the next day. Afterwards, we ended the evening together.
On Wednesday we continued with a full program, because before we could take part in the acceleration and skidpad, we had to pass some other scrutis. Yes, it was the Rain, Tilt and Brake Test again. We were also able to pass these without any problems and so nothing stood in our way of taking part. After a short break, we pushed our EDGE with driver into the practice area to do a few more test laps before the first dynamic disciplines. As the day went by faster than expected, we did a few laps in the practice area, but the acceleration and skidpad disciplines had to wait until the next day.
Engineering Design was already presented in the morning. After lunch, we continued with the cost report and the business plan presentation, the results of which we eagerly awaited in the evening. We were delighted when we found out that we had made it to the business plan final. While all the static disciplines were taking place, our EDGE15 was also being used diligently. Throughout the day, we were able to complete all four acceleration and skidpad runs and set good times for our team.
In the last few days, the autocross and endurance disciplines were on the program. We are particularly proud of our best autocross time of 44.589 seconds, which our driver achieved in the fourth run.
But that's not the only thing we were happy about these days. Even if it didn't count in the end, we are extremely proud of the entire team and the EDGE, as we were able to complete the Endurance at our last event of the 2024 season. Despite the somewhat dampened mood, we celebrated with all the other teams at the award ceremony in the evening.
And that's how fast it goes, we're already back in Vienna and reviewing the past season. But before we start the EDGE16 season, there is still a lot to do. But more on that in the next Newsflash!
