Newsflash January

Dear friends, dear supporters and dear fans!

We are back with a new update from from the EDGE17 production phase.

Updates from the workshop

Our chassis and composites teams have made great progress, as we have now received all SFK moulds back, fully milled, and are currently in the post-processing stage. The tooling plies from PEAK Technology, which are needed for the next steps, have also arrived. Over the next few weeks, these plies will be used to create the first tooling moulds in the autoclave, together with our sponsor, in which the components will be cured under defined pressure and temperature conditions.

Our electrical department has also had a lot to do. We are currently in the final phase of the CAD design of our wiring harness and are already preparing the next practical steps in parallel, including the winding of the first cables. At the same time, we have started soldering the first circuit boards, while other members are already working intensively on software development. In addition, a new group has been formed that is specifically dedicated to the software infrastructure and is developing new tools with the aim of making collaboration and workflows noticeably easier for the entire team.

Furthermore, close cooperation is developing between the Driverless and Vehicle Dynamics departments with the aim of exploiting the full potential of both modules through new control systems. The powertrain team is currently still waiting for the circuit boards for the new inverter and is using this time to continue working on the associated software in parallel.

Rules Quiz Day

This month is all about the Rules Quiz but above all, it's about team spirit, cohesion and joint preparation. In numerous preparation sessions, we worked intensively together as a team, discussed and learned from each other. Several Rules Quiz simulations helped us not only to deepen our knowledge of the rules, but also to function even better as a team. A particular highlight was the joint Rules Quiz training session with the BMW teams, where we shared our knowledge, challenged each other and exchanged valuable experiences with the AMZ Racing, Elbflorace and municHMotorsport teams.

The event concluded with a trial quiz as a final rehearsal, in which everyone pulled together once again. The aim was to eliminate any remaining uncertainties and start the rules quiz day well prepared. On 30 January 2026, the time will have come, the rules quiz will be contested for the following Formula Student events: FS Switzerland, FS Spain, FS Germany, FS Czech, FS East, FS Alpe Adria and FS Austria. With strong team spirit, good preparation and mutual support, we are looking forward to the Rules Quiz Day with motivation and excitement to put our collective knowledge to the test.

TU Wien Racing at the TU Ball

On 29 January 2026, we will have the opportunity to present our racing car in a very special setting: the TU Ball at the Hofburg in Vienna. By exhibiting our vehicle, we not only want to showcase the technical capabilities and hard work of our team, but also draw attention to our Formula Student Team. The TU Ball offers the ideal stage to combine technology, innovation and team spirit with a wide audience.

At the same time, we will use this opportunity to inform interested students and potential new members about our team. On site, we will provide insights into our working methods, our disciplines and everyday team life, and draw attention to our upcoming application phase. We look forward to presenting one of our EDGEs, having exciting conversations and perhaps soon welcoming new motivated members to our team.

UAS Technikum Wien

UAS Technikum Wien offers one of the most comprehensive ranges of technical courses in Austria and, as the largest purely technical university of applied sciences in the country, is a key player in Austria as a centre of technology and business. With its high-quality education and training, it makes a significant contribution to the training of future specialists. The three-pillar model of the UAS Technikum Wien combines technology, economics and personal development and is complemented by internationalisation and a modern understanding of lifelong learning. Research and teaching promote innovation and attractiveness in equal measure, while values such as respect, equal opportunities, responsibility and diversity shape everyday interaction. As a practice-oriented partner, the UAS Technikum Wien works closely with industry and business, supports start-ups and actively promotes the further development of the university of applied sciences landscape.

Together with TU Wien Racing, the UAS Technikum Wien pursues the goal of consistently transferring theoretical knowledge into practice and offering students the opportunity to participate in real, challenging technical projects. The cooperation strengthens the exchange between the university of applied sciences and the university, thereby promoting the interdisciplinary training of future engineers. It is particularly gratifying that around a fifth of our team members study at the UAS Technikum Wien and contribute the knowledge they acquire there directly to our team.

Until then!

Your TU Wien Racing
