Dear friends, dear supporters and dear fans!

We are back with a new update from from the EDGE16 competition season.

Off to the south for TU Wien Racing

On September 8, the first team members set off for the Autodromo Varano in Italy with the EDGE16. Initial preparations were made on the first two days, before the pit move-in and electrical scrutineering took place on Wednesday. The day ended with the official opening ceremony.

After completing the electrical scrutineering, Thursday was devoted entirely to the first static disciplines. Following the strong business plan and cost report presentations, the mechanical and accumulator scrutineering could begin. On Friday, the driver egress and other pre-inspections laid the foundation for the following days. We were delighted to learn that the engineering design and business plan presentations had made it to the final round.

The first dynamic disciplines took place the following day. TU Wien Racing excelled here, achieving second place in the skid pad with a time of 4.547 seconds, first place in the acceleration with a best time of 3.302 seconds, and second place in the autocross with 55.199 seconds. The crowning finale was the endurance race on Sunday, which was combined with the efficiency discipline. Here, the team was able to achieve second place in edurance and a first in efficiency.

The award ceremony marked a historic moment for the team, as the rankings show that this was probably the most successful competition ever for TU Wien Racing. The following lines speak for themselves. In the statics, the dedicated engineering design team took first place and the business plan presentation took second place. In the dynamics, we took first place in acceleration and second place in skidpad, autocross, and endurance. Overall, TU Wien Racing took home an incredible second place. A great end to a successful competition season.

DMG MORI

DMG MORI is a leading global manufacturer of machine tools and provides us with crucial support in the development of our EDGE16.

In particular, the precise tool and mold making made possible by our partner is a key factor in the success of our race car. Thanks to access to a 5-axis CNC milling machine (DMU 40) and a CNC lathe (CTX 350) at the DMG MORI TechCenter Stockerau, we have been able to massively expand our internal manufacturing capacities. Our team members are trained directly by DMG MORI application engineers and then manufacture independently – a huge step forward compared to our previous dependence on external contract manufacturers.

In addition, the TechCenter Stockerau is a central meeting place for SMEs in the CNC machine tool industry in eastern Austria, offering the opportunity to experience five machines live, test them through trial machining, and test new manufacturing technologies with industry partners.

With its commitment to school and university education, DMG MORI is helping to bring the MX approach and the intelligent connection between man and machine to the next generation of industry experts and decision-makers.

Many thanks to DMG MORI for its strong support!

Until then!
