Dear friends, dear supporters and dear fans!

We are back with a new update from from the EDGE17 concept phase.

TU Wien Racing is back

The time has come – the new season can begin. It kicked off with a recruitment phase. With many team members moving on to their well-deserved alumni status, new recruits had to be found. From September 22 to October 12, numerous lecture halls and social media platforms were scoured as the search for new members went into high gear. The best 50 applicants were selected from 130 applications and brought a breath of fresh air to our team.

With new ideas and fresh minds, we are entering the development phase of the EDGE17. We are currently in the middle of the design phase for our vehicle. Last week, we were able to gather valuable feedback from our alumni during the concept review, which will now be incorporated into further development. Based on this, the chassis and composites team is working intensively on the design and is already preparing the urethane blocks. At the same time, the aerodynamics team is developing a new aerodynamic package, which is currently being designed and simulated, while also dealing with the latest rule changes. The suspension team is also working hard on the design and simulation of new concepts to further optimize the performance of the entire vehicle. While the mechanical modules already have a lot to do, the situation is similar for the electrical modules. The electronics team has started planning and designing the wiring harness. At the same time, the powertrain team is taking measurements on the test bench to test the new concept. Our driverless team is carrying on the momentum from last season and simulating new algorithms and controllers. The vehicle dynamics team has a lot to do following the rule change. They are testing the new regulations with simulations and numerous test days. The accumulator team also has to develop a new concept. The season has only just begun, and yet there is already a lot to do.

We are not only looking to the future, but also back at our team's history. At the Festival of Speed, interested visitors were able to marvel at the history of TU Wien Racing in the Prechtlsaal at TU Wien from October 26 to 28. We have been designing and building our own race cars since 2007 – we now have 16 vehicles, and the 17th is currently in development. In the early years, we relied on combustion engines, but since the 2013/14 season, we have focused entirely on electric drives. To date, we have put a total of five combustion engines and eleven electric cars on the track.

Under the motto “Technology for People,” more than 4,000 scientists conduct research and train more than 26,000 future engineers at the Vienna University of Technology, Austria's largest research and educational institution in the field of technology and natural sciences.

From embedding our project in teaching to providing essential infrastructure and integrating us into the community, TU Wien provides the ideal foundation for a successful Formula Student team.

We are delighted to be able to represent the Vienna University of Technology internationally again this year and would like to express our sincere thanks for the continuous support!
