Newsflash Juni

Dear friends, dear supporters and dear fans!

We are back with a new update from TU Wien Racing.

Last month, the season got off to a successful start in the event summer with the first competition, the pre-season-event FS Easter. In the workshop intensive work was carried out on the SiC inverter, which has now been successfully installed, and the postponed Sponsor Day was successfully held at the end of May. At EFS Consulting's annual pitch training, the team was able to take valuable knowledge home with them.

FS Easter

The time has finally come for the first event to take place. From June 13-15, the pre-season event took place in Hungary on the ZalaZONE track. This was the first time that the EDGE16 was able to compete against the competition and prove what it can do - and it did.

TU Wien Racing took third place in the overall standings at FS Easter 2025 with a total score of 446.8 points. The team showed a consistently strong performance in the static and dynamic disciplines. In the statics, we performed at a consistently high level. We took third place in the Business Plan, second place in the Cost and Manufacturing Report and third place in Engineering Design.

The team also proved to be competitive in the dynamic disciplines. We achieved second place in Acceleration with a time of 5.473 seconds. In Skidpad, we secured first place with a time of 5.515 seconds. In the Autocross, the team achieved second place with a time of 28.507 seconds. The team was unable to take home any points in the endurance competitions - the Endurace and Efficiency.

Overall, the event was a success, as we can now return to the workshop with a lot of knowledge and experience so that we can compete in the FS Austria, FS Germany and FS Italy competitions in the coming months with an even better car. Unfortunately, the second event in Hungary, FS East, was canceled at short notice.

SiC Inverter

After intensive development work for our SiC inverter, we were able to order, assemble and debug the required printed circuit boards (PCBs) at the beginning of March. The complete inverter was then assembled and extensively tested on the test bench. We started with functional tests with a coil, followed by double pulse tests to analyze the switching behavior of the power modules. In the next step, the system was first tested with an older E3 motor from our inventory. This phase was crucial for identifying and eliminating potential weak points at an early stage. The knowledge gained was very helpful for the subsequent tests with the current E7 engines and helped us to achieve an almost trouble-free test. After the successful tests, the inverter was installed in the vehicle. The deployment at FS Easter went without any major problems, only minor adjustments were necessary on the software side. Thanks to targeted preparation, technical precision and a strong team effort, we were able to successfully integrate the new inverter.

EFS Pitch and Engineering Design Training

Once again this year, we were invited by our loyal sponsor, EFS Consulting, to attend a training course in preparation for the business plan and engineering design. A total of 19 team members took part in the two courses. For the members of the Sponsorship and Business Plan modules, professional pitch training was on the agenda. After a theoretical introduction, it was straight into practice. A complete pitch agenda for a fictitious investor meeting was prepared within 30 minutes. The participants were able to apply their knowledge, try things out and receive valuable feedback. In the Engineering Design section, we started directly with the presentation of the Overall Part, the section that each team member presents at the competition. Together with an experienced industry expert, content was analyzed, discussed and developed further in a targeted manner. Individual modules then presented their part in order to obtain feedback within the team and clarify general questions.

The subsequent discussions within the team, which focused on presentation techniques, structure and the common thread running through the individual contributions, were particularly valuable. The exchange helped us a lot to sharpen our arguments and present an even more united front as a team. A big thank you to EFS Consulting for the opportunity to take part in this high-quality training. We took away a great deal and are looking forward to incorporating the feedback we received into our final business plan and engineering design.

 Sponsor Day

As our planned Sponsor Day at the end of April had to be postponed due to a technical problem, we are all the more pleased that the event could be successfully rescheduled at the end of May. Despite the changeable weather, it was a complete success! Our sponsors had the rare opportunity to take a seat behind the wheel of our EDGE15 themselves. A real highlight for many - and a great opportunity for us to say a small thank you for all their support. Our tireless work is once again reflected in the fact that our EDGE lasted the whole day and was able to show what it is made of. We would like to thank everyone for their attendance and their trust in our team. The Sponsor Day showed once again how valuable our partnerships are and how much we can achieve together.
